STORY
English is my second language, and when I started my dance training at the old FatChance studio in 2007, I knew just enough to greet people. The variety of words my teachers used in classes, which now I can really appreciate, were often rather confusing because of my limited English.
The basic moves that didn't have names confused me the most, so I decided to name them. I named all the arm positions (except Arm #1 and Arm #2, which were already named), foot positions, and body angles, and I’ve decided to use stroke counts for the Slow vocabulary. This idea came from learning Chinese characters we use in Japanese.
Then an amazing thing happened. I could organize the steps I was learning easily and clearly which allowed me learn all the complex steps quickly! I advanced through the levels very fast, and in a little less than 2 years I was invited to join the pro troupe. That’s a FatChance record!
Since I started to teach at the FatChance studio and around the globe, I have been using the names and terminologies I created. I noticed that students learned the steps more quickly with this tool.
I’ve put all this info in one place to make this Level Two Slow Vocabulary Atlas for you. I hope this Atlas, along with my Level One Atlas and Level Two Fast Atlas, will help you organize your knowledge so that you can dance with confidence.
What Dancers Are Saying About The Atlases!
🌟I really enjoyed Kae Montgomery's Level 1 Vocabulary Atlas since it is a handy tool that every dancer must have. It is very clear and eye-catching thanks to the lovely design. In every class, I have it beside my laptop to check if I have a doubt regarding basic body angles or rules of stage. Thank you Kae for creating this Atlas and for sharing all your knowledge with all of us. 🙏😘 Love you, Cele

🌟The devil is in the details! Even as an experienced FCBD Style dancer, I’m always working on practicing the basics and perfecting the details. Kae’s Level 1 Atlas is such a valuable resource for knowing all the parts and strokes of each Level 1 move and how they come together. And it would be especially helpful for newer dancers who are learning the basics. A great tool for my dance toolbox! - Blair Davis
